Soprano Catherine Mazzone is a native of Glasgow, Scotland. Previous engagements have included covering the role of Medora in Il Corsaro at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as part of their annual Verdi Festival, performing the role of Isaura in Verdi's Jerusalem for the Opera Orchestra of New York and also taking part in their tribute of Giudetta Pasta. In addition to being second prizewinner in the Opera Index Competition in New York, Catherine was selected to represent Scotland in the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. In 2001 Catherine made her Sarasota Opera debut singing the Sandman in Humperdinck's Hansel und Gretel and understudied the roles of Alice in Verdi's Falstaff, Leonora in Oberto (Verdi's first opera), and the soprano in the Verdi Requiem. She made her European debut in Weber's Der Freishutz at the Zwingenberg Schlossfestspiele. Recent engagements include Rossini'sStabat Mater with the Monmouth Civic Chorus, and Verdi's Requiem with the Wheeling Symphony in Virginia and the Fargo Moorhead Symphony in Minnesota. She has also sung the title role in Ariadne auf Naxos at the Aspen Music Festival under the baton of Julius Rudel.
